| The aim of the Ravello Festival is to generate a special atmosphere which caresses the spirit. The ingredients it can count on are the serene landscape on all sides, the balmy climate, the highly evocative monuments and the courtesy which distinguishes personal encounters. Here at the heart of the Mediterranean the classical Latin heritage has been tempered with Arab grace, giving moments of relaxation a certain poise, rendering reflections creative and ensuring that exchanges are always conducted with the greatest respect. The Festival’s cultural offering accompanies the summer without impinging on guests’ privacy; we provide opportunities for entertainment, but we do not impose; we cater for a range of recondite desires without compromising anyone’s wish for solitude, for the primacy of silence or for unhampered meditation. The Ravello Festival seeks to enable a style of life based on introspection, creative idleness, ethics and aesthetics. A model of existence emancipated from the idiocies of destructive competition and activity for its own sake. The 2011 edition has a rich array of opportunities, and the thread that links these opportunities together, like so many pearls, showing them off but without any sense of constriction, is the Journey, this year’s Wagnerian Leitmotiv. |

| RESULTS OF THE 2011 FESTIVAL
Ravello Festival 2011, featuring the theme of the “Journey”, succeeded in registering very positive results in terms of visibility and box office in spite of a significant reduction in both the overall and artistic budgets.
During the 50 days of its duration (8 July - 27 August) Ravello hosted 68 events, with a density of activities that was superior to previous years.
There was an increase in both total and paying presences and a significant increase in the number of performances sold out.
As a marker of the eminently sustainable approach adopted in the 2011 Festival, it can be emphasised that the income from events covered almost 30% of the overall budget and 80% of the artistic budget: figures which are greatly superior to the national average in the sector.
The 2011 Festival also goes on record for the innovation of using, alongside the unique Belvedere of Villa Rufolo, the facilities of the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium, that finally takes its place in the history of the Festival.
